Studies are showing more than 25% of student's reading levels will drop below proficient over the summer months without some summer reading. We want to make sure that your child of course enjoys and relaxes this summer, but still comes back to school in August feeling ready and confident.
In each grade, students are assigned a summer reading project. Below you will find additional, not required, reading and comprehension practice that will help keep your child's mind active over the summer months. The additional practice will help them start the year off feeling ready to tackle the new challenges that await them!

Remember that the most confidence is gained when children can feel like they are improving and being successful on their own. Pushing them too hard will hinder their natural reading progression. It can also cause avoidance of reading, create stress, cause health problems related to that stress, lead to a broken spirit, cause misbehavior or worst of all alter the parent child relationship that is so precious. Before handing your child any work to do over the summer be sure to scan it first, making sure that it is something that will give them the needed practice but also is something that they can be proud and successful with. Start by clicking the link to the grade your child will be entering. Scan the passages and be sure that it is something you feel they are ready for. If not, click the link to the grade level below or above where your child is entering to find passages best suited for their current reading level.
Our goal is to celebrate your child's success- wherever that may be!
